Interview with a Mompreneur: Jennylyn Pringle of Fusion Mineral Paint
HELM is very proud to provide grant-funded childcare support to Ontario-based women entrepreneurs. In our new series, Interview with a Mompreneur, we get a glimpse into the businesses and lives of the talented moms who are taking part in The Childcare Support Pilot for Women Entrepreneurs. We hope you find these superwomen as inspiring as we do!
For our very first interview, we are thrilled to introduce you to Jennylyn Pringle, president and founder of Fusion Mineral Paint.
Tell us about your business:
“We inspire people to ‘paint it beautiful’ with a range of non-toxic, easy-to-use water based paints. Fusion Mineral Paint was created in 2014—from 20 years of experience in the paint industry—specifically to meet the needs of the furniture painting market. We offer vision, inspiration, and DIY how-to’s so that upcycling and designing your own beautiful space is easy.”
Tell us a little about your family:
“Just as I was starting my business, I found out I was pregnant. Starting a new brand and having a baby within the same year was a challenge! Now 4 years after starting Fusion Mineral Paint, I have a 3-year-old son who is the light of my life, has brought me more smiles than ever, and more challenges than I thought ever possible. Juggling family and business is an extra challenge!”
What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?
“From a young age, I’ve had a drive within me to make big things happen—I just never knew what that would be exactly. I knew that I loved helping others through challenges. With my company, not only do I offer a line of curated products, I also offer business services for my wholesale clients to encourage them and support them to be the best retailers out there.”
What is your favourite part of being an entrepreneur?
“The flexibility and ability to grow and dream big and create the life I want. I love being able to entertain my visions, and bring them to life.”
What are your goals for your business in the future?
“To be the most recognized DIY paint in the industry, and to be a go-to inspiration for other female entrepreneurs.”
What is your biggest Mom vs. Career challenge?
“Mommy guilt: the balance between growing my business, and giving myself & my son the dedicated necessary bonding and growing time. Not forgetting that there is much more to life than just work.”
What are your strategies for creating work/life balance?
“Scheduling in down time, scheduling in play time with my son, and leaving my phone out of reach when I am with my son to avoid the temptation to pick it up and ‘just quickly check on emails and social media’. Hire smarter and work smarter, not harder. Hire out what others can do.”
What are your tips for other mompreneurs?
“Feeling overwhelmed is part of juggling a busy career and family. How you feel about it and handle it is what sets apart successful entrepreneurs from the rest. Remember that you need to be in the best place possible—that means your physical and mental well-being must be in top shape for you to be the best for your family and for your business. Incorporate daily routines and rituals for yourself, and your family, that are must-do’s—no matter what that may be: a 30-minute walk, a yoga class, reading a book with your kids. By ensuring that you give time to both yourself and your family, those memories and bonds will build.”
